Nami Hirao
On the theme of "awareness" of nonordinariness in ordinary life, I produce installations that appeal to body sensations and the states of mind beyond visual sensation. I emphasize constantly changing objects, actions, processes, times, and places. Giving respect to a sense of awe of and faith in the invisibles in natural phenomenon and a distinctive Japanese sense of "ma" (betweenness), I search boundaries between self and others or environments, the states of space surrounding one's body, and the value and existence of the invisibles. I conceive the boundaries as skins or clothes. Recently I exhibited a series "Uncertain Surface", which, using mirrors, reflects the viewers and offers an opportunity to look at themselves differently. Besides, I put strength into providing the products having the theme of experiencing something through one's body with a long duration in daily life.
